How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
Said I to my daughter as we drove past Woodchuck Road on the way to my mom’s house for the weekend. Should have seen the look on her face. Like I was some kind of lunatic. Duh, as if she doesn’t know that already, she’s known me all her life.
Then she started laughing at me and I was laughing along. There was singing to songs we love and laughing at my yelling at drivers not getting out of the way on the 2 lane highway. There were turnouts and they didn’t use them!! Either way, we laughed and sang and had a great time during the drive up.
It’s been a long time since I laughed like that and it made me think of all the things I remind clients to do. Laughing is one of them. Being silly is another. Spending time with the people you love is right up there at the top.
We lose track of the truly important things and begin to think that work, business building and keeping our nose to the grindstone is what is truly important. Which could not be further from the truth.
Never walking away from the computer until you are practically ready to pee in your chair, calling for pizza at 8:15 because you have lost track of time, again and let's not even talk about missing time with the people who make your life worth living.
I believe one of the reasons why I could not get my business off the ground for so long was that I had forgotten to laugh, be silly and have fun. I was so focused on succeeding and making it work with my nose to that grindstone that I simply let all the important things go.
When was the last time you let yourself be silly? Laughed until tears fell from your eyes and your stomach hurt from it. How about making your kids roll their eyes at you as you act like the kid. When you giggled in bed with your love about something goofy.
Find your goofy, your silly and your laugh and set them free. They really are the important things in life and in your business, but most especially you. You will be the better for it and so will your business.
By the way, we laughed on the way home too...
